Solar Buyback Program

Revolution Energy buys back excess solar generation at the customer’s purchase price capped an amount equal to 100% of their usage from the grid for that billing period.

  • Revolution will net out excess solar generation you put back on the grid from the amount you use from the grid up to your total usage from the grid for that billing period.
  • Revolution will buy back the excess electricity at the contract sales price.
  • In order to participate, you will need to be enrolled into a Let Freedom Ring Green or Allegiance Green plan.

To receive the benefits of the solar buyback program, you must (i) have an interconnection agreement in place with your TDU to connect your renewable energy system to the power grid; (ii) have a meter installed by your TDU that separately measures the in-flow and out-flow of electricity to and from your home (your TDU may assess a charge for this meter, which would be passed through to you on your Revolution bill); and (iii) be a Revolution residential electricity customer enrolled on a plan eligible for solar buyback.

FAQs

Here are the eligible plans that allow you to participate in the program.

  • Let Freedom Ring Green
  • Allegiance Green

There are two general steps involved:

1) You need to make sure you have executed an Interconnection Agreement with your local Transmission & Distribution Utility (TDU). Once your TDU confirms your system is ready, your excess generation will automatically be sent to Revolution by your TDU.

2) You need to be enrolled into one of Revolution Energy's standard green energy plans, like the Let Freedom Ring Green or Allegiance Green plans.

Once you have executed the Interconnection Agreement with your TDU, your TDU will begin reporting your excess generation to Revolution. Note that it can take up to 3 billing cycles after your Interconnection Agreement has been executed for your TDU to begin reporting your excess generation to Revolution. This timing is completely controlled by your TDU and as soon as Revolution begins receiving the excess generation information, you will begin seeing it reflected on your invoices.

Your electricity meter tracks both inflow and outflow electricity. When your solar panels generate electricity you can't use, those electrons are sent back to the grid as outflow electricity. That is the excess electricity that Revolution buys back which you will see reflected on your invoices.

Revolution will buy back your excess electricity at the contract sales price. Note that you will pay TDU regulated delivery charges for the full amount you consumed from the grid. Those TDU charges are pass through charges from your local regulated utility.

No, these meters only measure the electricity you consume from the grid and the excess electricity flowing back onto the grid. If a monitoring system was installed with your solar panels, which is separate from your electricity meter, the monitoring system is what tracks all power produced by your solar panels.

Yes. Revolution will purchase, at the energy sales price, an amount of excess generation capped at your usage for that billing cycle. In other words, Revolution will not bank or provide additional credits for any excess generation greater than what you used from the grid for that billing period. Note that you will pay TDU regulated delivery charges for the full amount you consumed from the grid. Those TDU charges are pass through charges from your local regulated utility.

There will be times when you have questions about your solar panel system.

  • Your installer can answer questions about pricing, installation options, and equipment.
  • Revolution can answer questions about your billing, energy credits, or existing buyback plans.
  • Your TDU can answer questions about distributed generation, interconnection, and more.
